Penthrox is an effective medicine in the management of acute pain in emergency situations. Its rapid efficacy, non-invasive administration, and flexible dosing make it an effective and convenient option for healthcare professionals.
Penthrox contains the active substance methoxyflurane, which is a medicine used to reduce pain, and is inhaled through the Penthrox inhaler.
Penthrox is intended to reduce the severity of pain, rather than stop it completely.
The active substance is methoxyflurane, each sealed bottle contains 3 ml methoxyflurane 99.9%.
Penthrox is a clear, almost colourless volatile liquid, with a characteristic fruity odour that becomes a vapour or gas when used with the Penthrox inhaler.
The pack contains one bottle of Penthrox methoxyflurane 99.9%, 3 ml inhalation vapour, and one Penthrox inhaler with activated carbon (AC) chamber.
Rapid efficacy: Penthrox provides pain relief within minutes of inhalation, making it an effective option for managing acute pain.
Non-invasive: Unlike other methods of pain relief such as injections or intravenous medications, Penthrox is administered through inhalation, making it a non-invasive option.

The physician, doctor, nurse, paramedic, or person trained in administering Penthrox must provide and explain the Package Leaflet to the patient.
One or two 3 ml bottles containing 3 ml of PENTHROX can be used per administration. The maximum dose is two bottles containing 3 ml per administration. Do not inhale more than the maximum dose.
In the UK Penthrox is only licensed for use on adults, therefore it cannot be used on children.
Penthrox should only be given to patients by healthcare professionals.
Penthrox is self-administered under supervision of a healthcare professional trained in its administration.
